Bucky Down To Seven

Greg SteimsmaBreaking News. Just moments ago, the UW Athletic Department released news that Greg Stiemsma is taking a leave of absence from the team for personal medical reasons. Also, Marcus Landry was declared ineligible for the game tonight at Ohio State. Neither player traveled with the team.

One could speculate that Marcus didn’t make the grades - but second semester just started - so if it was grades, it would’ve happened weeks ago. The only other thing I could think of is that he missed practice this morning or something…. not a good way to get on Bo’s good side.

With Greg, I’m assuming it must be a family issue - if it was an issue with him, he’s still travel with the team unless he was laid up in the hospital or something.

This means the Badgers are now out 3 players they started with this season (DeAaron Williams the first due to grades and transferring out). Bucky is now down to a 7-man rotation with Flowers and Krabbenhoft coming off the bench. That’s a big difference from having a 9 or 10 man rotation like they started the year with…

Maybe Bo will play a zone defense tonight. Ha.

And maybe The Ohio State University will admit requiring “The” in front of their name is moronic.

  1. Well, first half tonight at Ohio State and Brian Butch went down with sprained left ankle. So now it’s down to 6 players… it looks like he might try to play in the second half though.

We’re tied 31-31, and for shooting around 33% from the field, missing a ton of bunny-shots, I think we’re in good shape. As long as we step up the defense and start making the easy buckets, we could pull it out, even understaffed.

  2. Behind lousy defense and horrible free throw shooting by Tucker again, the Badgers failed miserably to pull out a win in the second half.

I don’t even know why I watch this garbage.

  3. It turns out Greg has missed several practices lately due to doctor appointments - still no word on what the ailment is. But Landry’s ailment seems to be school work. His Dad was quoted as saying, “Basically I heard that he didn’t get something turned in to the teacher and something wasn’t turned in grade-wise…”

    Wonderful.

  4. Update: Landry practiced with the team on Thursday. No word on whether Stiemsma was there, or if either of them will play on Saturday vs. North Dakota State.
