I remember this one very well. Thanks for the mp3 link. I had this story on vinyl record (not 8-track) and listened to it often enough to remember Nikki's long name 40 years later. Ha ha ha. I suppose that story didn't have that broad an audience since I've never met anyone else who had heard it.(Ain't the Internet wonderful!)

Hi, let me clean some things up. I work in Charter repair. First, the MOXI box is a horrible system, and yes it heats up, however the MOXI box its self has no problems, or complications with VOD. VOD is a price that Charter eats, as we provide just as many customers without digital services as with, there is no additional cost. It is a price that we pay and DO NOT move to customers, we pay it and provide the service as incentive for customers to move to digital. As far as the monopoly comment...Ah Hem.. ..::clearing my throat::.. Cable is somthing that is dictated by the govenment as something that is provided by at least one provider, however, it is not dictated that there need be a multitude of providers, and as such, if there is an established cable company, it would cost a new one to try to take the area, let alone the costs to the city to run new wire right along side the exsisting cable companies wiring; as such, not only is it encuraged, but financially insisted upon by cities, that only one cable company per-area, you dont like it, talk to your senitor.

I wonder if it is just a case of the team getting tired, underestimating the competition, al lack of motivation, or just being up against a better team?

I'm in Souther California... I have Charter and the MOXI DVR... I've had to replace one box due to what I believe was related to Burt's problem an overly hot box causing the power supply to fail... As for VOD service, it's spotty at best. Sure, most of the time it works but, when it doesn't work, it fails miserably. When you attempt to select a movie you'll get the "Thank you, enjoy your show" message but then nothing but a black screen and no error message or you'll get an error message (sometimes after a few minutes of waiting).

As for cable being a monopoly, it generally is if you go by the concept of vendors. I mean, how many cable companies do any of you know that operate in a single area at any given time? Generally, I've only heard of one at a time. Supposedly satellite is another type of the same medium but, like it's already been said, if you live in an apartment building you may not have the opportunity to use it. Telephone companies are just setting up cable-like services, but most areas will be unable to use the service for a number of years... Cable, the monopoly the government forgot...
